The University of Gondar in Ethiopia, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, is offering fully funded master’s degree scholarships for students from select African countries in 2025. This opportunity supports talented but economically disadvantaged students by covering tuition, living expenses, accommodation, flights, meals, and more.
This scholarship aims to equip graduates with advanced academic knowledge and strong leadership skills, empowering them to positively impact their communities and beyond. Over eight years, the program will award a total of 160 scholarships. It focuses on youth with disabilities and female applicants with financial need from Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea, Djibouti, and South Sudan. IELTS is not required to apply.

Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship at Gondar University, applicants must:

Hold a bachelor's degree earned within the past five years in a relevant field from a recognized institution using English as the medium of instruction

Have a minimum CGPA of 2.75 (on a 4.0 scale)

Be a citizen and resident (for at least five years) of Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea, Djibouti, or South Sudan

Youth with disabilities are encouraged to apply

Female applicants with financial hardship are especially encouraged

Detailed resume including academic, volunteer, and leadership experience

Transcripts from all levels of education (elementary to university)

Two recommendation letters from past universities

Valid ID card or passport

Proof of economic hardship from local authorities

Police clearance certificate

Testimony of community service or leadership involvement
