Tory Lanez Hospitalized After Stabbing Attack in California Prison

Rapper reportedly suffered 14 stab wounds in assault while serving time for shooting Megan Thee Stallion
Canadian rapper Tory Lanez was hospitalized Monday after being violently attacked by another inmate at a California prison, according to state corrections officials and a statement posted on the artist’s Instagram account.
Lanez, 32—born Daystar Peterson—is currently serving a 10-year sentence for the 2020 shooting of fellow hip-hop star Megan Thee Stallion. The incident reportedly occurred at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, near Bakersfield, where Lanez is incarcerated.
Following the assault, Lanez was transported to an off-site medical facility for emergency treatment. While the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation has not released specific details about his injuries, a message shared on his official Instagram late Monday stated that Lanez had been stabbed 14 times.
“Both of his lungs collapsed, and he was placed on a breathing apparatus,” the statement read. “He is now breathing on his own.” A spokesperson for Lanez confirmed the incident but declined to offer further updates.
Lanez was sentenced in August 2023 after a Los Angeles jury found him guilty on three felony charges, including assault with a semiautomatic firearm, for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in both feet following an argument. The high-profile case drew widespread media attention and public scrutiny.
At the time of the shooting, Megan Thee Stallion was experiencing a meteoric rise, bolstered by major collaborations with Beyoncé and Cardi B. In 2023, she sought and was granted a restraining order against Lanez. Legal filings accused him of orchestrating a harassment campaign from behind bars, including efforts to smear her reputation via third-party bloggers.
The restraining order against Lanez remains in effect until 2030, according to reports from the Associated Press. As of now, authorities have not identified the inmate responsible for the attack or provided information on whether further charges will be pursued.
